The short answer
IGTAP: an Incremental Game That's Also a Platformer is not a free-to-play game. The full version is sold on Steam for $9.99 USD, where it launched on September 21, 2026 with a 10% introductory discount that brought the price to $8.99 for a limited period. There is no free weekend or permanent free edition of the Steam release listed on the store page.
That said, you can play a substantial amount of IGTAP without paying anything. The developer, Varii of Pepper Tango Games, publishes free browser builds of the game that predate the Steam release, and those builds remain available to try. They are demos of the concept rather than the complete game, and the two experiences are not identical.
What is free: the browser builds
The main free build is hosted at galaxy.click/play/694, where it has been played thousands of times since it was posted on February 20, 2026. A second free web build, titled "igtap but patched", is available on the developer's itch.io page. Both run directly in a browser with no download and no purchase.
These free builds include the core loop: running courses, recording a route for your clones, buying power upgrades at kiosks and unlocking movement abilities like wall jump, dash and double jump. The galaxy.click build received updates through June 7, 2026, including a platforming physics rework and an additional prestige layer, so it evolved considerably during its free run.
What the free builds do not include
The most important limitation is saving. The developer's own note on the galaxy.click page states that save and load only works on the Steam version, and recommends downloading it for the best experience. Free browser progress can disappear when you close the tab or clear browser data, depending on the site's storage options.
The web builds are also demo-scale. A developer reply to a player question confirmed that course 5 "is not really part of the demo" in the original web build, and the full Steam game extends well beyond the demo with additional progression, all 29 Steam achievements, Steam Cloud saves and the later content the community discusses on the Steam hub. Because these are separate builds, their content may differ from the Steam version in both directions.
Is the paid version worth it over the free one?
Community sentiment suggests the free builds work extremely well as a trial. Players in the galaxy.click comments repeatedly said the demo convinced them to buy, with one top comment calling it one of the few demos that made them consider paying, and several itch.io commenters said they would purchase on release after finishing it.
The Steam release carries a Mostly Positive rating from 430 purchaser reviews, so most players who tried it were satisfied. If you enjoy optimising routes and watching a clone army automate your best run, the paid version removes the save limitation and adds the full endgame; if you only want a taste, the browser builds cost nothing.
Discounts, bundles and trying before buying
Beyond the launch discount, IGTAP appears in Steam bundles such as the six-game Incremental Must-plays bundle and pairings with Crown Siege and Zero Stress King: Idle Defense, which can lower the effective price if you want those games too. Standard Steam seasonal sales are the usual opportunity to catch further discounts.
